Military analyst and military technical consultant W. Thomas Smith Jr. is a recognized expert in matters of national defense; primarily special operations, counterterrorism, amphibious and unconventional operations, and conventional ground combat. (O-6) in the S.C. Military Dept.; Smith is a technical consultant for films which have aired on The Military Channel. He is an author; a New York Times bestselling editor; columnist; founding partner of NATIONAL DEFENSE CONSULTANTS, LLC; national director of the U.S. Counterterrorism Advisory Team; former national security advisor for presidential candidate Rick Santorum; former advisor to the S.C. Governor’s Military Base Task Force; a special deputy with the Richland County Sheriff's Dept. (RCSD); the director of RCSD's Elder Abuse Awareness Team; and a member of the National Security Task Force of the newly formed S.C. Floodwater Commission.
A veteran war correspondent, Smith has covered conflict in the Balkans and throughout the Middle East.
Smith is the founding director of ALWAYS FAITHFUL OUTREACH, a Christian ministry reaching out to the homeless and others in need. He also serves or has served on numerous boards and advisory councils, including the board of directors of the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame and the board of the South Carolina Military Hall of Fame.
